USB issue (both Win11 and MacOS) - amyackerrocks - 2025-04-22

Hello,

I recently received my Tangara and I discovered several issues:
  1. Device is not recognized on MacOS when I connect it via usb,
  2. On Win11, whenever I try to paste files, the device gets disconnected. SD card seems ok and adding files work as long as I use my SD card directly instead of the device,
  3. I also used the player during running, and multiple times the music was interrupted with error display that the SD card is missing. The card was inserted but I believe the shock absorptions is missing and might provoke the SD card issue,
  4. The screen is not usable outside. I can't see nothing even in the shadows,
  5. Back button stops working when I'm in USB Storage settings

Note:
  • Yes, I have enabled the USB Storage in Settings
  • Also, I have tried different SD cards which are quite expensive so I don't think the issue should be in the quality of those.
  • USB-C cable works fine with my phone
  • Screen brightness setup was at 80%

Yeah, USB mass storage mode is still a bit of a WIP, and it's not really ready yet for large transfers. I mostly use it when writing scripts or themes or editing playlists, but it's not up to being the main way to copy tracks over yet. There's an issue for this here: https://codeberg.org/cool-tech-zone/tangara-fw/issues/310

If this is still the case after setting the brightness higher (in settings under "display"), then it may be a hardware fault with the screen. If changing this setting doesn't help and it's still quite dim, please email support@cooltech.zone and we'll figure it out from there, sending a replacement if needed. The max brightness should *definitely* be bright enough to see in shadow.

This is designed, it won't allow you to exit this mode until USB storage is disabled.

That's less than ideal. I haven't run into this kind of issue myself (no pun intended), even when shaking the device quite hard. Was this with the SD cover on, out of interest? I wonder if it might have been bumped causing the SD card to partially eject.
