SD-Cards are so unstable. I really have to slow down Copies of files to not getting I/O-Errors. I recommend doing this if you are experiencing I/O-Errors. With rsync the parameter is --bwlimit=10000

My tangaras (1 self built) have no problems with scratches without a case. Often I have keys in the same pocket as the tangara.

Yes, your user is not member of the dialout group. You can add the user to the group with this command: sudo usermod -a -G dialout Afterwards you need to login again to make the group change...
