For what it's worth, 88 and 96 khz FLAC have worked fine for me, but I don't have anything higher than that.

192 khz FLAC did not work for me for https://menitrust.bandcamp.com/album/equus-caballus.
I reencoded the files to 48 khz FLAC and copied them to the sdcard which now plays fine.

In case anybody has high quality flac files that do not play well on tangara:
