Edit: Ah. Having just watched the Beets intro clip I realize that this software is much too complicated for me. Anything other than a easy-teenage interface (like iTunes) causes mayhem on my Mac and enormous frustration on my part.

You can remove art through a simple interface one at a time using Kid3 ( https://kid3.kde.org/ ). Open an album, select all files, untick 'Picture', hit save.

For a bulk command line solution there's EyeD3 ( https://eyed3.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ ), but that's a bit more technical.
