but that just results in a file sitting on my sd card that only plays a single song queue. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I'm doing anything wrong at all.

So… i may be the odd (old?) one out here, but: to me a playlist is exactly that: a saved queue of songs.  I don't know if it would help other respondents or not, but, if you could pardon my ignorance: could i ask what a playlist is to you?  That might help get the ball rolling (that said: if others already understand what else might be meant by "playlist," sorry for the noise!).
