My suggestion as a workaround to navigating this is to use microSD cards with SD card adapters - that way the SD card adapter is the one "taking the fall".
IIRC, my SD card adapter is also developing cracks in a manner similar to what's being described here. (I'll post a picture later when I get the chance.)
