Bluetooth headphones keep crashing my tangara. How can I start debugging this?

Question
Disclaimer: This is not a "Fix my Tangara" forum post. This is more of a "teach me how to fish" if that makes sense.

Ever since I got my Tangara it has at least once a day started crashing every time I start playback. It is very random and it would keep on crashing after each restart even. Every time I press play. At first I thought something was wrong with my audio files so I started testing out different audio files in my library without luck. I couldn't really pinpoint the problem so I didn't even know how best to write a bug report. At that point I just brushed it off as Tangara being a bit rough around the edges and sure enough a future firmware would address this as this surely was a widespread problem. Future updates came and no change.

At that point I started testing some more things and that's when I noticed that I could break the crash loop by restarting my bluetooth headphones and reconnecting. I also noticed that this only happened when I was using my bluetooth headphones but not wired headphones.

The headphones in question are old Bose QuietComfort 35 Series 2
I have the latest 2.1.0 Tangara firmware

How do I start debugging and researching this kind of stuff. I am a game developer by trade but I've never really worked with firmwares, devices, etc... But would love to get my feet wet. So any pointers for me in the right direction would be lovely!

Thank you  Heart
