I think there may be a higher-level divide between people who generally listen to individual tracks (or compilations) and people who generally listen to albums.  I'm on the album side, as are some of the people here, but I think the developers are generally on the tracks side.  I wonder if it would make sense to have a high-level setting that asks something like "Do you generally want to play tracks or albums?" and adjust behavior like this from it.  I've already run into several places while working on the firmware where this would apply; for me, another key place is which index is used when pressing "go to artist" from track info.  I would want to see the results from Albums By Artist there, so I can pick a new album, but today it uses All Artists, which presents a list of tracks and no way to pick an album.  (issue)
