Is this considered the default orientation for Tangarine's buttons?

Once that's merged (I'm waiting for jacqueline to review it) you will be able to drop a file on your SD card and it'll just work with no other changes. All configuration happens in that file, and it's auto-reloaded at boot and when you insert the SD card.
If you want to use it before then, you'll need to build from that branch, which is exactly the same as the mainline firmware except you start by cloning the lua-input branch instead of the upstream firmware.
Seeing that the most recent activity in the PR was from 2 days ago, I'll wait until it's merged with production stable firmware - seeing that redshift is braver than me regarding trying out Tangarine.
However, I've received my copy of Tangarine and also I have disassembled Tangara completely once to prepare myself. (However, only the top half of Tangara needs to be disassembled in order to install Tangarine.)
I'm looking forward to Tangarine, as this will be more in line with the typical IRL use cases I anticipate using Tangara in - e.g., it'd be much easier for me to press physical buttons than the default touchwheel. (I may elaborate more on this in the future, but not now.)
