How robust is the screen?
#1
I was wondering if anyone of you who have had Tangaras for a while has had any issues with scratched or broken screens after shoving then in bags, purses or pockets. I was thinking I'd make a case (sweing one maybe) because the screen seems a bit exposed in pictures. But then someone mentioned on mastodon that they had had to redo one because there was dust or something under a screen protector.

So I'm thinking if there's a screen protector, maybe it's not as delicate as I was afraid. What has your experience been?

Thanks

Yep, we're including a plastic screen protector in between the screen and the case. The screen protector has gotten a bit scratched on Robin's tangara, who tends to keep it loose in a backpack. Mine has been fine so far in my pocket (not with my keys or anything particularly likely to scratch tho), and in an generic electronics carry case I keep it in when I'm not using it. I personally like using a case to store it with my earphones and usb-c cable, and a case would help with the screen protector staying pristine for longer, but there isn't any risk of the screen itself getting scratched in that way. Thanks. That feels like the best answer I could have hoped for. I'm fine with being careful or getting a few scratches on a screen protector. And also glad not to have to worry too much about my keys (or whatever) poking a hole in the screen itself.

That's good to know that Tangara will come with a preinstalled screen protector.  This reminds me of how OnePlus smartphones came with preinstalled film screen protectors out-of-the-box when the company first started with the OnePlus One and 3T (but I haven't use any recent OnePlus devices, so I don't know if this is currently true).

Following up on this thread: Either my Tangara came with a screen protector that requires disassembling the device to replace, or it didn't come with a pre-installed screen protector. It's already pretty scratched up so I wish I got a third party one to put on the outside.

Oh nooo Sad Yeah, the screen protector is on the inside, nestled between the screen and the case. The screen protector being scratched at the very least means it's not the screen being scratched, but that is obviously not ideal. The plastic we used is a bit softer than what we'd have ideally liked, and so it does scratch more readily than if we'd been able to source a harder material, but our thinking was it's better to have at least some protection rather than none. For future batches we're looking into harder materials, and I think extra screen protectors would be a good thing to add to our store (when I finally get around to setting up a store omg theres so much to do)

I'm really sorry to hear that yours is already scratched up. If you want to drop us a message at support@cooltech.zone, I'd be happy to send you a few replacement screen protectors from the same stock, or we can figure out something else.
