PCBWay-ready files
#1
Since the only way to get a new Tangara now is to build one yourself, I'd like to get a bulk order with some friends from PCBWay. Unfortunately, neither of us is very familiar with the hardware side of things, CAD and all.

I've previously tried just using a KiCad plugin to export some files for quoting on PCBWay, but they came back saying there are issues to be resolved. Since I'd love to avoid as much of that as possible, does anyone have the required files for manufacturing AND assembly with them with the least friction available and is willing to share them?

If you have anything you are willing to share, you can send it to ydwktp5a@duck.com, thanks!

Hi! What exactly were the issues they raised with you? We did out first production batch via PCBWay, so everything should be done to a spec that they can manufacture. It's possible that some component sourcing issues may have develop since then.

In case it helps, I've attached the gerbers and PCBA files we sent with the production PCBWay batch.

Attached Files
.zip   tangara-production-pcbway.zip (Size: 793.09 KB / Downloads: 6)

Thanks, this was actually quite helpful! I'm getting somewhere now, it seems.
One more question - how is the display attached to the board? Should its ribbon be soldered right onto the board? I'm wondering whether we should try to have PCBWay do that as well or we'll need to do that ourselves.

Sorry for jumping in but I'm trying the same thing with PCBWay. I sent the files you provided to them and everything looks good except:

Faceplate:
1) J4                molex_5052781533 comes back with "This product is no longer manufactured, pls advise substitutes."

Mainboard:
2) J2                molex_5052781533 comes back with "This product is no longer manufactured, pls advise substitutes."
3) SW1, SW2  SW_EVQ-P4HB3B  comes back with "The quoted part number is [EVQ-P40B3M], not [EVQ-P4HB3B] as specified in description"
4) U5              PE1605C4A6          comes back with "PE1605C4A6 is incomplete, pls provide exact part number."

I think 3/4 I could resolve myself but a connector no longer being availble has pushed me out of my depth. Appricate if you have time to provide a new file(s) PCB way can process but no worries if not, I already really enjoyed looking into the work you folks have already done with this!

Hi, what's your e-mail? I can send you the latest files I finally used for production for PCBway along with their updated BOMs.

I don't know where you got the molex from tbh, for those you had issues with, I had this:

Faceplate
J4 - G-Switch GT-F0509SR15-15SMT01

Mainboard
J2 - G-Switch GT-F0509SR15-15SMT01
SW1, SW2 - I specifically then asked for EVQ-P4HB3B, as I wanted the volume buttons to be quite stiff, their quoted EVQ-P40B3M would be too easy to press
U5 - PE1605C4A6-AU_R1_000A1

Yep. For Tangarine (which uses the same display, attached the same way) I just buy the displays separately and solder them on myself. The fab can probably do it, but I was only doing professional PCBA for the other side (specifically so I didn't have to deal with the FFC connector) so I did not look into it.

As of this commit, it's G-Switch GT-F0509SR15-15SMT01 (the one larsimore found). It *was* the Molex one, until that one stopped existing.
